Motor City Wash Works held its 13th annual Open House & Charity Auction Event for the benefit of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital on Tuesday, August 3 and Wednesday, August 4. This year, the venue was moved from Greektown in downtown Detroit to The Inn at St Johns in Plymouth, simplifying proceedings by centralizing all activities — host hotel, welcome reception, auction, wash talks, and golf outing — at one location.
Participants were treated to a welcome reception at The Fives Bar on Monday evening. The program kicked off with a golf outing on Tuesday morning. A BBQ lunch at and tour of the Motor City Wash Works factory in Wixom followed. Next up was a Motor City express tour and a tour of the Motor City Wash Works factory in Northville.
Wednesday ‘s schedule included Wash Talks and the Golden Ticket Raffle drawing. The first prize, consisting of $150,000 in Motor City Wash Works equipment went to Kelley Automotive Group; second prize ($20,000 in equipment) was claimed by Patriot Car Wash; Service One walked away with third prize ($10,000 in equipment).
The highlight of the event was the charity auction that offered for auction more than $1 million in equipment and services donated by industry vendors. The event raised enough many to donate $353,345 to St. Jude, a sizable addition to the more than $1 million that Motor City Wash Works has previously raised for the hospital.
In 2019, the company introduced an additional fundraising program: “Washing Cars. Fighting Cancer.” The program runs annually during the month of September. Participants simply register their car washes with St. Jude, and download a St. Jude splash screen onto their auto cashiers. Then supply St. Jude with sales reports, and donate the proceeds at the end of the program.
