CBS Channel 11 in the Dallas/Fort Worth market reports that, due to overlapping jurisdictions, there is confusion as to whether or not car washes can stay open during the Coronavirus pandemic. John Kim was surprised to hear he was allowed to keep open his full-service Red Wave Car Wash located in Plano in Collin County.
In neighboring Dallas and Denton Counties full-service car washes are not considered essential businesses and need to close. Only self-service car washes can be open. Anyone caught violating the order can be prosecuted for a misdemeanor and face a fine or even jail time.
Some cities are in different counties, adding to the confusion. Frisco, for example is in both Collin and Denton Counties and is following Denton’s definition of “essential business” in the entire city. Richardson and Dallas are in both Collin and Dallas counties and are following Dallas County’s order.
