Kaady Chemical Corp. of San Leandro, CA, in conjunction with Car Wash Products, of Portland, Oregon, has hired Andy Murillo as their Southern California regional sales manager. Murillo brings with him 40-plus years of car wash experience covering equipment, service, installation, project design, and sales.
GRACE FOR VETS 2010
Since 2004, Grace for Vets has honored veterans and service personnel with free car washes across the nation on Veterans Day. Hundreds of car washes have participated in this program and the list grows every year.
At last count, 286 companies with 781 locations in 44 states plus Washington, DC have participated in this important event. Last year companies reported 60,744 free washes for vets on Veterans Day. The goal this year is 100,000 free washes with at least one car wash participating from all 50 states. Veterans day is Thursday November 11, 2010.
The Grace for Vets website (www.graceforvets.org) is the place to register to access promotional material. The registration process is easy and a wash must be registered to download materials to

MARK VII IN CANADA
Arvada, CO-based Mark VII Equipment Inc., the US subsidiary of WashTec AG of Germany, has acquired the assets of car wash distributor Chem Tec West Enterprises Ltd. in the provinces of Alberta, Manitoba, and Saskatchewan. Concurrently, Mark VII has signed Chem Tec West as a distributor in British Columbia.

MOBILE TECH EXPO 2011
The 2011 International Mobile Tech Expo is moving west to Corpus Christi, TX, bringing with it automotive appearance repair and reconditioning specialists from around the world. Participants for the 2011 Dent/Door Ding Contest are registering from Hong Kong, Japan, The Netherlands, Austria, France, Germany, Canada, Great Britain, Australia, and Mexico.
The Expo is set for January 20-22, 2011 at the Richard M. Borchard Regional Fairgrounds in Robstown, TX. The Expo has events for experienced techs and newcomers alike. Education Day on Thursday Jan 20 will offer a full day — from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. — of classes, lectures, seminars, and hands-on demonstrations in everything from glass and bumper repair to detailing and marketing.

AUTOBELL CAR WASH #59
Autobell Car Wash Inc., headquartered in Charlotte, NC, has opened a wash at 15020 Idlewild Road in Stallings, NC, near the Interstate 485 interchange. This marks the privately owned chain’s 59th location and the fourth in Union County, joining stores in Monroe, Waxhaw, and Indian Trail. Jeff Hyatt is
the store manager. The wash features the Aqua Bio 100-percent reclaim-water treatment system.
Autobell now employs approximately 1,900 people and washes over 3 million cars annually.
On Saturday, July 10 the Adrenaline Gymnastics Club raised over $700 at their charity car wash held at Kwik Car Wash in Parker, CO. Kwik Car Wash donated 50 percent of its wash sales during the club’s fundraiser. The girls and their families worked hard vacuuming and towel drying vehicles, selling smoothies, and raffling off a gift basket for additional donations.
Two weeks later, on Saturday, July 24, the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s Team In Training® was able to raise over $700 at their charity car wash held at Kwik Car Wash’s Littleton, CO location. Again, Kwik Car Wash donated 50 percent of its wash sales during the fundraiser to the organization. Team In Training members were on site selling home-baked treats and assisting in vacuuming and drying vehicles for donations.
Kwik Car Wash frequently hosts charity car washes for local nonprofit organizations. Other events scheduled for this summer include benefits for sports teams, community non-profit groups, and the local high school poms team. OBITUARY: ERWIN ZABAN
Erwin Zaban, one of the founding family members of the company that became Zep Inc., passed away at his home on Tuesday, July 6 at age 88.
At age 15, Mr. Zaban joined the company established by his father. After serving in the military, he rejoined the company, serving first as a salesman, then as sales manager, before being appointed company president in 1947, a position he held until 1966.
He was responsible for much of Zep’s growth, helping the company survive and thrive during World War II and taking the company nationwide in the 1950s. Between the time he joined the company in 1937 and the time he left the position of company president, sales grew from $100,000 a year to $29 million.
Zep Manufacturing Company merged with National Linen to form National Service Industries (NSI) in 1961, where Mr. Zaban served as the company’s chairman and CEO until he retired in 1994. Erwin Zaban was born August 17, 1921 in Atlanta, GA. He is survived by his wife, Judy, three children, and many grandchildren and great grandchildren.
