Care World Expo Review Part I
McCormick Place in Chicago, IL was the venue for the International
Carwash Association's Car Care World Expo 2002, held April 25-27.
The reported total attendance was a respectable 9,163, which fell
only around 1,000 short of the number that attended the 2001 event
in Las Vegas.
Bill Sartor, ICA president, presented his State-of-the-Industry
address during the Annual Business Meeting and Opening Luncheon
on the first day of the event. Sartor pointed to several ongoing
programs, such as the environmental research study, which, it is
hoped, will eventually help operators reduce their sewer and solid
waste expenses. He also envisaged the design of a comprehensive
public relations program, an initiative operators have been calling
for for some time.
Several ICA Awards were presented during the Business Meeting:
The Community Leadership Award went to Lisa Lyons of TRLC
inc. in San Diego, CA.
Dick Hollingshead of Hollingshead Industries in Sacramento,
CA was presented with the Association Leadership Award.
There were two recipients of the Industry Leadership Awards:
Bob Gavlick, who recently retired from Exxon/Mobil Corporation,
and Sherman West of A1 Door and Heating Systems in Joliet, IL.
Archie Johnson of Superior Car Wash Systems in Phoenix,
AZ was named recipient of the Leadership in Innovation Award.
Two individuals were inducted into the Car Wash Hall of
Fame this year. They are Mack McElroy of Protovest Inc. in Glendale,
AZ and Bud Belanger of Belanger Inc. in Northville, MI.
