WCA Convention

The MGM Grand in Las Vegas, NV was the new venue for the Western Carwash Association’s 28th annual Convention and Tradeshow. The event kicked off on Monday, October 5 with a daylong presentation by the Disney Institute and ran through Wednesday, October 7.

In a departure from past practice, educational sessions were offered on both the trade show days and presented concurrently with exhibit hours right on the exhibit floor. This new arrangement won overwhelming support from attendees who, by a show of hands at the various seminars, indicated near unanimous approval.

Several awards were presented during the WCA Business Meeting on Tuesday, October 6:

  • The Distinguished Service Award went to two individuals — Kirk Kuzmanic (in absentia) and Francis Tenggardjaja.
  • The Special Service Award was presented to Comtec Wash Systems of Lakewood, CO.
  • Bill Martin of Metro Express Car Wash in Boise, ID was named Innovator of the Year.
  • The Manager of the Year Award went to Karin Forbes of San Diego Car Care in San Diego, CA
  • Patricia Knott of Green Forest Car Wash in Hawthorn, CA was presented with the Rookie of the Year Award.
  • El Segundo 5 Minute Express Wash of El Segundo, CA was named Trendsetter of the Year.
  • Gene Miller of Hi Performance Wash Systems, Denver, CO was inducted, in absentia, into the WCA Car Wash Hall of Fame.
