Jim Coleman Company (JCC) has named John Antonis executive vice president of JCC’s Hanna division. Prior to the acquisition of Hanna by JCC in 2005, Antonis was the executive vice president of Hanna Car Wash International LLC. Since then, he has served as international manager for JCC/Hanna. Antonis started as a Hanna Distributor in 1988 in Taipei, Taiwan and grew that business into one of Hanna’s largest. The business was sold in 1995 and Antonis returned to the United States to join Hanna as the vice president of international sales. From 1998 to 2001, Antonis served as the vice president of sales and marketing for Integrated Services Inc. from where he returned to Hanna.

KRACO TO ACQUIRE AUTO EXPRESSIONS

Kraco Enterprises, a distributor of automotive aftermarket floor mats, announced that it had signed a purchase and sale agreement to acquire Auto Expressions, the automotive aftermarket accessories business of Pennzoil-Quaker State Company dba SOPUS Products, and a subsidiary of Shell Oil Company. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

The Auto Expressions product line includes air fresheners, seat covers, sunshades, steering wheel covers, floor mats, and auto organizers. Kraco Enterprises, which is owned by an affiliate of Sun Capital Partners, Inc., said it has no plans to change the Auto Expressions brand.

REVENUE SHARE

NuStar, Inc. (www.nustarinc.com) of Shakopee, MN, manufacturer of rollover automatic car wash equipment for over 40 years, has announced two new programs that allow qualified businesses to obtain free car wash equipment, free chemicals, and free service and repair. Both programs are ideal for gas stations, C-stores, car dealerships and self-serve car wash owners who wish to replace old equipment or add new equipment without taking on the large debt associated with a car wash purchase or financing.

Under the first program, called “Revenue Share,” the operator shares a percentage of the sales revenue each month with NuStar. The percentage is negotiated before any equipment is installed. The operator is responsible for providing electrical and water hook-up to the car wash. The second new program, called “Pay-per-Wash,” requires the operator to pay NuStar a flat rate for every car washed by the new machine. The flat rate charged is determined by the type of automatic selected and the number of washes done per year — generally ranging from $1.99 to $3.99.

SONNY’S APPRENTICE PROGRAM

In an attempt to promote manufacturing in America, Sonny’s Enterprises Inc. (www.sonnysdirect.com) of Tamarac, FL, as well as several other member companies of the South Florida Manufacturing Association, have created a state approved apprentice program. The program provides both training and opportunity to aspiring young machinists.

“Sonny’s vision is to leverage technology and training to make car washing easy with a product designed and built in the United States,” said Paul Fazio, CEO of Sonny’s Enterprise, Inc. “It only makes sense that we take an active part in making sure that we have a talented and skilled pool of technical professionals to keep us on top of our industry. By working with the South Florida Manufacturers Association’s apprentice program, and actually having some of these apprentices in our operation right now, we are assuring them of a long-term career and ourselves of long-term productivity.”

The program works with local high schools to recruit interested applicants who are given both classroom and on-the-job training. Apprentices are paid an initial wage, which rises at scheduled intervals of the four-year program. Applicants must be at least 18 years old and high school graduates. New applicants are reviewed every two months.

$52,460 RAISED FOR FOOD PANTRIES

For the entire month of May, select Super Wash® car washes (www.superwash.com) hosted a Food-Raiser to raise money for local food pantries. Super Wash donated to a local food pantry $1 of every “Super Wash” (automatic wash button 4) and $1.50 of every four wash-token package purchased from May 1 through May 31, 2010. $52,460 was collectively raised with an average donation of $325 made to each participating food pantry. All of the money raised will stay in the local community to benefit local families.

Bob Black, co-founder and CEO of Super Wash Inc. remarked, “During these challenging times when many families are struggling to make ends meet, and when other families have been forced to cut back on their charitable donations, we are honored to be able to provide approximately 364,000 meals to kids and families in need across the country.”

Arvada, CO-based Mark VII Equipment Inc., the US subsidiary of WashTec AG of Germany, has announced its acquisition of the assets of former PDQ distributor Advantek Inc. and the opening of direct operations in Toronto, Ontario.

WASHWORLD DISTRIBUTOR

Washworld (www.washworldinc.com) of De Pere, WI has announced the newest addition to its distributor network. National Pride Equipment (www.nationalpridecarwash.com) in Ashland, OH will be providing sales and service for Washworld vehicle wash systems in the northern Ohio region.

Heading up the company are Trent Walter, president and Charles Collins, vice president, who, combined, have over 40 years of experience in the car wash industry. In addition, both Walter and Collins have engineering degrees from Ohio State University, which enable them to provide their customers with an extensive background in vehicle wash technology.

ecoJET Systems, a new touch-free in-bay automatic car wash manufacturer, has announced the accessibility to the public of its “Follow Us” webpage documenting the process of building, testing, and launching its new machine. The “Follow Us” page (linked at ecoJETSystems.com) was previously available only to a select group of distributors.

“I think people appreciate the transparency. You can definitely see our design from the inside out,” said Vince Lovejoy, the company’s general manager. “We are not only keeping people updated, we are showing them exactly what we are doing.”
