Every year in April and October, during National Car Care Month, the Car Care Council organizes free vehicle checkup events at automotive service businesses across the country.
The data generated by these checkups have been revealing, exposing a vast potential customer pool for automotive service providers.
As reported in Auto Laundry News in March 2007, 88 percent of vehicles checked the previous year needed service or parts, often of the exact nature as those that fast lube centers provide. The free checkups are a service to the consumer and an entrée to new customers for the business owner.
At last year’s events, the Car Care Council identified maintenance needs in 77 percent of vehicles checked — a significant improvement over the five years, though still indicative of sizable opportunity. Taking its measure of the vehicle maintenance market a step further, the council has combined the findings of its 2012 events with the results of Google’s “Road to Winning Drivers” Study (July 2013) and additional Google consumer surveys to produce the colorful infographic seen on the right — a source of information for business and consumer alike.
The Car Care Council is responsible for the “Be Car Care Aware” consumer-education campaign promoting the benefits of regular vehicle care, maintenance, and repair. For more information, visit www.carcare.org.
