Networking in San Diego, 2012.

For the third year running, the Western Carwash Association is presenting its annual convention and tradeshow in San Diego, CA. The event, now known as the Western Car Wash Show, takes place at the San Diego Convention Center September 11 and 12. For car washers who prefer to do their conventioneering ocean-side, this will be the last opportunity for a while as the Western Car Wash Show returns to its traditional home, Las Vegas, in 2014.

For 2013, the convention program has been trimmed down to two days, yet retains much of its usual punch. In addition to offering expected industry-specific education, including the popular roundtables, the WCA has recruited speakers with various business backgrounds to offer their insights to car washers:

  • Chip Conley is the keynote speaker. His presentation is titled “PEAK: How Great Companies Get Their Mojo from Maslow.” Conley is a New York Times best-selling author and reportedly the world’s most prolific boutique hotelier having overseen the conception, creation, and management of the second-largest boutique hotel chain with more than 50 unique properties.
  • Dave Nelsen, president of Dialog Consulting Group, will speak on “Social Media for Business: Why You Need It; Why You Can’t Ignore It.” Nelsen specializes in helping senior executives embrace social media by developing strategies for communicating with their most important internal and external customers. Using proven social media/networking, Nelsen helps businesses increase conversations and build a new customer base.
  • Kim Lear, a millennial generational consultant, will expound on the subject: “Rocking the Workplace: Managing and Leading

Four Generations.” Lear is a speaker, writer, strategist, and researcher on the topic of generations for BridgeWorks, LLC. She speaks to businesses and corporations on how to understand, attract, and manage the wave of Millennials now entering the workforce.

The International Detailing Association is offering an educational program on the first day of the convention. Details on the seminars, which run from 8:00 a.m. to noon, can be found in the Schedule of Events, below.
