Preview: Car Care World Expo 2011

This year, the International Carwash Association’s annual event, Car Care World Expo, moves to a new venue: the Sands Expo Center in Las Vegas, NV. This change places show attendees within walking distance of numerous attractions, including the newer Wynn’s and Encore across one street and the older familiar Treasure Island, across another.

The gathering of everyone and everything that is car washing, the largest get-together of its kind anywhere, officially kicks off on Monday, May 2 and runs through Wednesday, May 4. Sunday, May 1 offers two “pre-show” events. First, as in past years, a new-investor seminar is scheduled. Titled “Introduction to the Car Wash Business,” this is close to an all-day program. Attendees will learn car wash business models, how to develop their business strategy, site selection and development tactics, and how to optimally finance their business. Second, a golf tournament is back in the activities lineup. Enthusiasts can head for the greens at the Las Vegas Paiute Golf Resort at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday.

The petroleum marketers and c-store operators have not been forgotten. A seminar designed specially for them is on the schedule for day one of the show. The seminar will provide an in-depth look at the car wash industry to help attendees make sense of the car wash as a profit center, develop a brand that attracts customers, identify the right distributors and grow distributor relationships, and effectively market and promote their business to maximize their profit potential.

Car wash directed educational sessions are geared to specific audiences: owners/operators (identified in the schedule below by the letter “O” behind the session title) and site managers (M). On Tuesday, May 3, the keynote address will be delivered by Joe Theismann, a two-time Pro Bowl player and the most productive quarterback in the history of the Washington Redskins. In his presentation, titled “Challenge of Change,” Theismann will show attendees how to tackle change by keeping a positive mental outlook and committing to a vision that will guide them to the top.
